Saturday, May 9 | 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Warren Township branch
We start with a brief showing of example paintings through the ages and highlight some of its characteristics and history. We then discuss the material aspects of the art form – paper, ink and especially its key tool, the Chinese brush; traditional painting formats, the role of calligraphy and seal-carving. The session will proceed with a demonstration of brush painting, showcasing the versatility of the Chinese brush through simple imagery, followed by the creation of a landscape painting. As a final feature, audience members will have an opportunity to try the brushes themselves.
Paul Tong has practiced Chinese Brush Painting for over 30 years. A retired engineer, he currently teaches the art at the Center for Contemporary Art in Bedminster.
