“You’d Look Better as a Ghost” by Joanna Wallace
Review by Yvonne Selander, collection development librarian
Lucas is a menace to society. With one typo he crushed Claire’s hopes and dreams. But no worries, he’ll never make a mistake that upsetting again.
Claire has been struggling since her dear father died. She used to be so methodical and careful with her extracurricular activities, but she is not as focused and careful as she once was. Someone saw Lucas enter her house and never leave. And now Claire is being blackmailed. And really, is it so smart to blackmail a serial killer?
This is a great cat and mouse story, and strangely you can’t help hoping that Claire stops her blackmailer. Fair warning, Claire is not Dexter Morgan. She isn’t just killing those that deserve it. She has her own reasons for what she does, but I wouldn’t call it a moral code by any stretch of the imagination.
I listened to this one straight through on a road trip and it definitely kept my attention. Maybe a little too much as I kept passing gas stations, ones I definitely should have stopped at, to listen to just a little more before a break.
For those looking for a decidedly macabre, yet somehow lighthearted, summer read.
