The Somerset County Library System of New Jersey's (SCLSNJ) Watchung branch is exhibiting the art of Lee Gaskins, of Watchung, through November 30, 2023.
Gaskins, who is a retired art teacher, creates original painted pieces as well as digital canvases which he forms one pixel at a time.
Much of Gaskins’ artwork can best be described as a magical intersection of pop culture, fairy tale, and fantasy, and includes almost a dozen art works celebrating the 1904 World Fair.
“I became fascinated with the World Fair after watching one of my favorite movies, 'Meet Me in St. Louis'," said Gaskins. "I was intrigued by the story’s feverish longing for the Louisiana Exposition. This led to multiple paintings of the World Fair as well as development of the largest website in the world devoted to the subject."
The Friends of the Watchung Library will be hosting an artist reception for Gaskins on October 26 from 6-7:30 p.m.
The Watchung branch is located at 12 Stirling Road in Watchung. To contact the Watchung branch, call (908) 458-8455 or email watchung@sclibnj.org. To discover all SCLSNJ has to offer, visit SCLSNJ.org or connect with SCLSNJ on Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, or YouTube.
