Warren Township Artist Linda Schwartz Exhibits at Local Library this April

Local artist’s exhibit “Connections” on display at SCLSNJ’s Warren Twp. Library branch

(Somerset County, NJ: April 4, 2017) This April, award-winning Warren artist Linda Schwartz is showcasing 21 of her paintings in the Art Space at Somerset County Library System of New Jersey’s Warren Township Library branch, located at 42 Mountain Blvd. in Warren Twp. The collection, “Connections,” includes colorful contemporary pastels, vintage portraits, and familiar iconic objects will be on display through April 28 during regular Library hours of operation. Schwartz has had an interest in drawing since childhood and took photography, pottery, and sculpture classes while attending Rutgers University in pursuit of her B.A. and M.S. degrees in Psychology. She studied portraiture and painting at the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey in Summit and the Center for Contemporary Art in Bedminster. Schwartz, a member of several professional organizations including the Pastel Society of New Jersey and the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey, took first place with her entry “Double Bubble” in the 2016 Contemporary Art Group Show at Overlook Auxiliary Gallery. “Capturing people, places and objects that evoke emotion and connect us - to the past, to memories, to imagination, to joy, to childhood - is my motivation,” said Schwartz. “Color, shape, light, and reflections are the themes that I use to explore those connections. I use color, from the sepia tones of vintage portraits to the bright, vibrant colors of childhood remembered and imagined. I am drawn to the way that glass reflects and distorts light, changing our perception of reality, just as the lens of memory distorts our past and reflects our present. I love iconic objects that spark recognition and draw us in, hinting at forgotten feelings and memories below the surface. Patterns created by recurring geometric and other shapes are also a major theme in my work. The rich color, immediacy, and texture created with pastels offer the ideal medium to bring these themes to life. I use these themes to explore and express our connection to people, places & objects.” The artist is offering several of her paintings for sale at this time and can be contacted at lsschwartz@optonline.net for pricing information. A portion of the proceeds from the sale will be donated to the Friends of the Warren Library. A notebook located on the podium next to the exhibit is provided for feedback or comments.
