The Somerset County Library System of New Jersey Updates, Simplifies Mobile App

In order to enhance the user experience, the Somerset County Library System of New Jersey (SCLSNJ) recently updated their mobile app for the first time in over five years. Upgrades to the app include a simple-to-navigate home screen that offers an easily accessible contact free, self-checkout option; the ability to manage multiple accounts from the same family in one location; and a number of new features.
“During a time when things are quite difficult, we are excited to share the news of our updated, easy-to-use app,” said Rich Loomis, SCLSNJ digital services manager. “Not only does the new app offer a cleaner, sleeker look but it simplifies the self-checkout process for a smoother, safer Library experience. The updates also make it easier to manage checked-out items and holds.”
New features to the mobile app include a directory that provides the hours of operation, locations, directions, and contact information for each Library branch; the ability to explore and register for System-Wide and virtual programs; a services feature that highlights some of SCLSNJ’s most popular resources and services; a new materials recommendation list; and direct links to SCLSNJ’s social media accounts; and more.
“Instead of digging through the catalog or website to find some of our great resources, everything is at the user’s fingertips,” continued Loomis. “Direct links to Naxos Music Library, Mango Languages, Flipster digital magazines, and other popular Library offerings are directly linked under the services icon.”
“When we gathered community data to create our strategic plan, we confirmed what we already knew- that a large majority of our customers have smartphones,” said Lynn Hoffman, director of operations. “This update to the SCLSNJ app gives our customers an even more convenient way to access library materials and services."
