“The Night We Lost Him” by Laura Dave
Review by Amy Atzert, collection development librarian
Nora is the daughter of hotel tycoon Liam Noone. She is devastated to hear her father has died, but even more shocked to hear it was because of an accidental fall off the cliffs near his seaside cottage: the landscape of which he knew and loved so much. Nora is contacted by her estranged brother Sam who is convinced the fall was no accident. He is also convinced Liam was not alone on those cliffs that fateful night. Will Nora join him in a personal investigation or accept the police’s accidental version? She can’t get rid of the nagging feeling Sam may have good reason to suspect foul play. Even though she knows Sam may be right she is hesitant to uncover truths and secrets that may change everything she knows about her family and her life as she knows it.
This is an emotional thriller. It is fast paced and the twists and turns are plentiful. The pages contain long buried secrets, mysterious circumstances, and messy family history.
