“The Last One at the Wedding” by Jason Rekulak
Review by Yvonne Selander, collection development librarian
After a falling out Frank Szatowski hasn’t heard from his daughter in three years. He’s stunned that their first phone call after all that time is an invitation to her upcoming wedding to a billionaire’s son. A UPS driver, intensely proud of his pristine driving record and years on the job, he is unprepared for the level of wealth this wedding will entail. Wanting to get to know his future in-laws and reconnect with his daughter, Frank is faced with more questions than answers as he arrives on the private estate in the woods of New Hampshire for a week of festivities. What starts as a celebration puts Frank on edge as he begins to fear for his daughter’s safety as the wedding draws closer.
This is an interesting twist on the rich people getting away with everything story; with twists I didn’t see coming. Frank’s sister is also at the wedding and getting her perspective as a realist who can’t afford to take the moral high road served as a great foil for Frank and the reader who, like me I’m sure, will question what they would do in a similar circumstance.
I was so excited to get a preview of the author’s next book I didn’t realize it won’t be released until October! So put those holds on now…
