Over 25 children and their parents joined in the Somerset County Library System of New Jersey's (SCLSNJ) preschool summer literacy celebration hosted at the Hillsborough branch. This event helped to kick off SCLSNJ's Summer Reading Challenge which runs June 13 through August 20.
Children first listened to the book "Someday, Narwhal" by Lisa Mantchev during a special storytime. Next participants explored seven arts and adventure stations, including: sand art, decorating a sea creature headband, painting a seashell, walking the plank, fish bowling, feeding the shark, and catching a fish.

"Reading over the summer can help children maintain their skills," said Jessica Fazekas, youth services department supervisor. "Library programs generate interest in books and literacy. By engaging with our community throughout the duration of our Summer Reading Challenge, we are fostering a lifelong love of libraries."
The Hillsborough branch is located at 379 South Branch Road in Hillsborough. For questions, email hillsborough@sclibnj.org or call (908) 458-8420.
