The Somerset County Library System of New Jersey's (SCLSNJ) Somerville branch has been hosting a person (and animal) friendly, interactive information display thanks to Girl Scout Junior Troop 63212 of Somerville.
"This absolutely wonderful interactive display has proved extremely popular," said Mary Cole, youth services department supervisor. "The girls have already had to refill the make-and-take pet (cat and dog) toys activity several times, and many books have been checked out. The girls worked hard to find books and information available through our System and to collect donations to benefit the Somerset Regional Animal Shelter."
The Junior Troop 63212 of Somerville, led by Helen French and Francene Dennis, are currently working on their Bronze Award for Girl Scouts - the highest award for a Girl Scout Junior. Their project involves sharing resources with new pet owners - both supplies and information.
Continued Cole, "We are very proud of their work and happy to share our space in the Library for this project. Our Libraries are here and available for all. We are thrilled to be the local gathering space for our communities."
The display will be available for browsing through October 31, 2023; take-home kits will be available while supplies last. The Somerville branch is located at 35 West End Avenue in Somerville. For more information about the branch, call (908) 458-8445 or email somerville@sclibnj.org.
