September is Library Card Sign-Up Month
August 28, 2025 – This September, the Somerset County Library System of New Jersey (SCLSNJ) is celebrating Library Card Sign-up Month by inviting the Somerset County community to discover the vast and valuable resources available with a free SCLSNJ library card. A library card is your key to a world of knowledge, entertainment, and opportunity, all at no cost.
"A library card is one of the most powerful tools a person can have," said Peter Bromberg, SCLSNJ Library Director. "It provides access to a wealth of resources that support lifelong learning, career development, personal interests, and pure enjoyment. We encourage everyone in our community to use their library card to explore, discover, and create their own personal library experience."
An SCLSNJ library card is more than just a passport to books. It provides access to a comprehensive suite of services, including:
- Digital Resources: A vast collection of e-books, e-audiobooks, digital newspapers and magazines, and streaming services.
- Online Learning & Skill Development: Access to a variety of online courses and tutorials to learn new skills, from computer programming and business to arts and languages.
- Museum Passes: Free or discounted admission to a number of museums and cultural institutions in the New Jersey and New York metropolitan area.
- Career and Business Support: Resources for job seekers, including resume builders, interview preparation tools, and business databases for entrepreneurs.
- Technology Access: Free public computers, high-speed Wi-Fi, and services like printing, copying, and scanning.
- Engaging Programs and Events: A diverse calendar of in-person and virtual programs for all ages, including story times, book discussions, craft workshops, and author talks.
- Local History and Genealogy: Specialized resources for researching your family's history and the history of Somerset County.

As a special incentive for new members, SCLSNJ is giving away three brand-new Kindles to lucky individuals who sign up for a library card during the month of September. All new cardholders who sign up from September 1-30, 2025, will be automatically entered into the drawing. Winners will be selected at random and notified in early October.
