This summer, the Somerset County Library System of New Jersey’s (SCLSNJ) Bridgewater branch received enhancements to the The Greany Learning Garden, located outside the children’s department. Local landscaping company Sacchitelli Landscape Concepts designed the updated layout of the garden by adding inviting, whimsical elements, including: a large rainbow pinwheel, metal ants, an ornamental dragonfly fence, new mulch and stone in an artistic design, and new plants and boulders. In addition, the company removed the weeds and cleaned up the overall appearance of the garden.
“Library customers are drawn to the updated space, where they can explore the decorative garden installed by the landscapers, and watch the growth of the vegetable gardens tended to by our youth services librarians,” said Beth Bouwman, youth services supervisor. “It's a joy to watch children come outside for a storytime and then linger to smell the herbs and marvel at how green tomatoes are before they're ripe. It's also been a great spot for families who need to take a peaceful break and relax while they visit the Library.”
"We truly enjoyed creating the design and it was by far the most fun we had this season putting together a design,” said Peter Sacchitelli, owner of Sacchitelli Landscape Concepts. “My favorite part is the marching ants; I hope they give a lot of enjoyment to everyone that sees them."
In 2019, the garden was donated to the Library and dedicated to the memory of Frances J. Greany. Sacchitelli Landscape Concepts have agreed to donate their time to continue to maintain the garden. To donate to the Library, contact: director@sclibnj.org.
