SCLSNJ Expands Virtual Reference Service to Include Spanish Language and Text Options

About Blog Post May 8, 2020 by Pressroom
The Somerset County Library System of New Jersey (SCLSNJ) continues to enhance services that enable Library customers to connect with staff during the COVID-19 crisis while maintaining proper social distancing standards. The latest additions include the ability to schedule Spanish language appointments when using the popular Ask an SCLSNJ Expert service and the introduction of Text a Librarian.  “Having Ask an SCLSNJ Expert available in Spanish is a wonderful way for us to connect one-on-one with members of our community who may need assistance through their native language to learn about the myriad materials and services that SCLSNJ provides,” said Library Assistant Rachel Bohach, one of the bilingual staff members participating in the service. “With this, we hope to create, maintain, and strengthen the relationships that we are normally able to cultivate within the walls of our buildings, but now must do in a virtual setting.”  Ask an SCLSNJ Expert in Spanish (Reserve un Experto de SCLSNJ en Espanol) is available:
  • Tuesdays: 9-11:30 a.m. and 3-3:30 p.m.
  • Thursdays: 1-4:30 p.m.
In addition to this service, the Library System now offers the option to text an SCLSNJ librarian for those who may not have internet access at home. Librarians can be reached via text message at (908) 264.2777. Text messaging services are available:
  • Monday-Thursday: 9 a.m. - 9 p.m.
  • Friday-Saturday: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
“SCLSNJ's commitment to lifelong learning, welcoming new residents, and meeting the needs created by shifting demographics has never been more needed,” said Adult Services Supervisor Catherine DeBerry. “In an effort to better serve our customers, who have questions and concerns during these trying times, SCLSNJ is excited to continue to enhance our services.” While you continue to #BeSafeAtHome, explore information about these services and more: sclsnj.org/research-learn/ask-a-librarian.
