The Somerset County Library System of New Jersey (SCLSNJ) is committed to giving back to the community throughout the holiday season. This December, the Library System organized donations to a number of local groups including Alternatives Inc., the Somerset County Regional Animal Shelter (SRAS), and more.
“The staff at the Library have always been generous in giving back to the communities they serve and this year was an exceptional one,” said Brian K. Auger, county library administrator. “New this year was an outpouring of donations for homeless veterans through Veterans' Haven North: dozens of new sets of sheets, pillows, and blankets as well as coats and brand new clothing to help in their transition from homelessness. In each case, staff brought a mountain of donations to organizations that serve those neighbors of our who are in need.”
Library staff donated almost 100 gifts to Alternatives, Inc., who service individuals and families with special needs; senior staff bought gifts for a dozen children in foster care on behalf of CASA SHaW; and for the 19th year SCLSNJ Operations Supervisor Edith Lit organized a drive for the Somerset Regional Animal Shelter (SRAS), where Library staff and customers donated over 1000 pounds of goods.
“SCLSNJ recognizes that doing something for the community you live in is one way to show a sense of appreciation,” said Lit. “Volunteering through donations and support, especially during the holiday season, strengthens our communities and brings people together.”
