On August 21, the Somerset County Library System of New Jersey (SCLSNJ) partnered with the Somerset Patriots for an exciting Library Night at the Ballpark to celebrate the successful completion of SCLSNJ’s Summer Reading Challenge. “Public libraries share a goal in fostering a love of reading and our Summer Reading Challenge is just one way we do this,” said County Library Administrator Brian Auger. “Our partnership with the Somerset Patriots and MyCentralJersey.com brought about astonishing increases in every facet of participation this summer. Nearly 10,000 people registered and overall participation was up nearly 14 percent.” “This summer, children and teens read 172,152 combined days; while adults read 13,173 books. Every literacy enrichment goal the Library set this summer was met, and then exceeded,” said Carolann DeMatos, director of marketing and public relations. More than 500 Summer Reading Challengers redeemed their vouchers for the game. Attendees watched Summer Reading Challenge golden ticket winner Miah Pesantez, 7, of Bound Brook, throw out the first pitch, discovered inflatable entertainment act the ZOOperstars, and supported the hometeam. SCLSNJ thanks community partners the Somerset Patriots and MyCentralJersey.com for aiding in the success of the program.
