On May 16, the Somerset County Library System of New Jersey (SCLSNJ) participated in a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) baseball day game at TD Bank Ballpark in cooperation with the Somerset Patriots. Children, teens, and educators explored feats of engineering by building contraptions out of paint stirrers, wooden spools, paper cups, duct tape, and pingpong balls to mimic and examine the science behind a pop-up fly ball.
“Our Summer Reading partnership with the Somerset Patriots has allowed the Library System to connect with children and educators throughout Somerset County and beyond,” said Carolann DeMatos, SCLSNJ director of marketing and public relations. “The STEM-focused day games allowed attendees to explore STEM principals in a light-hearted and recreational atmosphere. When the community partners together in this way to help promote education for our youths, the entire County benefits. This is one of the many reasons why Somerset County is truly the best place to live, work, and play.”
