October Focus on Horror: Nick Medina
Created by Bob Helmbrecht, collection development librarian
Our Focus on Horror author today is author Nick Medina.
Medina's debut novel, "Sisters of the Lost Nation," was released in 2023. This supernatural thriller is set on a Louisiana reservation. Young women begin to go missing, and a cleaner at the reservation's casino begins to suspect a group of men at the casino. When her sister disappears, she begins to delve into the mystery, and soon finds it may be much older and darker than it appears.
"Indian Burial Ground" is Medina's second and most recent novel. The author returns to his fictional Louisiana reservation for another dark mystery. Author Gabino Iglesias said of this book: "Part adventure narrative, part supernatural horror story, and part eerie mystery, this novel slithers under your skin and makes you wish you knew less with every step it brings you closer to the truth. Nick Medina is waiting in the dark to whisper in your ear about dead things, about the tamahka, about blood and Native mythology. You should let him."
You get a taste of Medina's writing in the anthology "Never Whistle at Night: An Indigenous Dark Fiction Anthology," which includes the story "Quantum." Check out a book by Nick Medina today!
