October Focus on Horror: Leslie J. Anderson
Created by Bob Helmbrecht, collection development librarian
Our Focus on Horror Month author for today is Leslie J. Anderson.
Anderson's debut novel, "The Unmothers," was published this summer. The book was an Indie Next List Pick, and showed up on other "Most Anticipated" lists. A journalist grieving the death of her husband and a miscarriage is assigned to cover a bizarre story. In a small rural town, a horse has been reported to have given birth to a healthy human baby. As she investigates, she finds a darker mystery lurking in the community.
Writing in “The New York Times,” author Gabino Iglesias called the book an "impressive debut, an intricate and unsettling narrative about desperation that is full of stellar writing." Author Sarah Galley called it "nauseatingly tense and crushingly insightful...an absolutely vital entry into the horror canon."
Anderson is also a poet, and has published one book of strange poetry, "Take This to Space." From the publisher's description: "This poetry collection explores awe, gratitude, grief, and growth as she looks at the universe, the grains of sand, the comic books in her closet, the myths that came a thousand years before, and the science fiction future yet to come. revealing, inspirational, and aspirational."
