October Focus on Horror: Josh Winning

About Blog Post Oct 16, 2024 by SCLSNJ Staff
October Focus on Horror: Josh Winning Created by Bob Helmbrecht, collection development librarian Our Focus on Horror Month author for today is Josh Winning.  The author’s debut novel, "Shadow Glass," was released in 2022. In this one, Jack has to cope with the death of his estranged, neglectful father, the eccentric director of a cult classic fantasy movie. His father believed that the characters in the movie were real, and Jack’s discovery that he was right forces him to reevaluate their relationship, at the same time he has to save the world from these dark fantasy creatures!  Winning’s follow-up novel was 2023’s "Burn the Negative." From the publisher’s description: "Arriving in L.A. to visit the set of a new streaming horror series, journalist Laura Warren witnesses a man jumping from a bridge, landing right behind her car. ‘Here we go,’ she thinks. ‘It’s started.’ Because the series she’s reporting on is a remake of a ’90s horror flick. A cursed ’90s horror flick, which she starred in as a child–and has been running from her whole life." The novel was on the preliminary list for the Stoker Award. "Heads Will Roll" is Winning's most recent book. A sitcom star checks into a digital detox camp after a disastrous tweet. It seems like a good idea, until other campers start turning up dead. Author C.J. Tudor said of the novel: "I really enjoyed the way ‘Heads Will Roll’ plays with all the horror/slasher tropes, while also taking aim at the pitfalls of social media and cancel culture. A whole lot of bloody fun with a serious message at its heart."  Check out a book by Josh Winning today!
