Our Focus on Horror author for today is Caitlin Starling.
Starling’s debut novel "The Luminous Dead" won the Best Debut award from the Ladies of Horror Fiction, and was also nominated in the best first novel categories in the Bram Stoker and Locus Awards. It is a tale of psychological survival horror in a science fiction setting, in which a woman explores a cave on another world in search of another woman’s lost parents. Over two dozen others have died trying to find them, but why does she keep seeing them in the shadows?
"Yellow Jessamine" was Starling’s follow-up novella. A horrific tale of dark fantasy, in which a mysterious plague threatens everything a powerful shipping magnate has built. She tries to hide within the walls of her estate, but can she survive her own dark secrets?
Starling’s next novel was "The Death of Jane Lawrence." In this Gothic fantasy novel, a practical young woman proposes a marriage of convenience to the local doctor. He agrees, under the condition that she never spends the night at his ancestral home. When a terrible storm forces her to seek shelter there, she finds that the storm may have been safer than the home.
The author’s most recent novel was "Last to Leave the Room," released in 2023. Author Katrina Monroe said of this book: "A mad-scientist cautionary tale cloaked in unflinching dread, to read this book is to creep down the basement stairs in the dark toward bone-deep uncertainty.
