New York Times Bestselling Author and Horticulturist to Make Appearance at Bridgewater Library

About Blog Post Jan 18, 2018 by Pressroom
New York Times bestselling author, Marta McDowell, will be giving a book talk at the Somerset County Library System of New Jersey’s (SCLSNJ) Bridgewater Library branch, located at 1 Vogt Drive in Bridgewater, on February 24 from 2-3 p.m. McDowell will be discussing her newly released book, “The World of Laura Ingalls Wilder: The Frontier Landscapes That Inspired the Little House Books,” which explores Wilder’s relationship with the rich rural landscape. “I love to dig and mess about with plants. But writing about gardening means that I have to reflect on tending plants, on being custodian of my bit of earth, and then do my best to put those reflections into words. Writing is a way to share my love of gardening with a wider audience, and that is a fine thing to be able to do,” said McDowell. During McDowell’s presentation patrons will explore details about Wilder’s life and inspirations; discover how to visit the real places today; and learn to grow the plants and vegetables featured in Wilder’s “Little House” books. “I was an avid reader of ‘The Little House on the Prairie’ books as a child, as were many of our patrons. McDowell's new book paints the world of Laura Ingalls anew, using excerpts from Laura's books, historic photographs, and maps of the time. In doing so, she takes us on a journey back to those simpler times,” said, Fiona Kennedy, Bridgewater branch adult programming coordinator. Registration is required.
