About Blog Post Apr 16, 2024 by SCLSNJ Staff
National Poetry Month: Marisca Pichette Created by Bob Helmbrecht, collection development librarian Our National Poetry Month poet for today is Marisca Pichette. Pichette's debut collection, "Rivers in Your Skin, Sirens in Your Hair," was published in 2023 by Android Press. It is currently a nominee for the 2023 Bram Stoker Award for Superior Achievement in Poetry, the winner of which will be announced in June during the StokerCon literary festival. From the publisher's description: "Marisca Pichette celebrates myth, folklore, and memory. Her poems traverse landscapes both real and imagined, taking inherited tales and retelling them through a queer lens. From dusk into the night and out again at dawn, her work offers you a magical journey in speculative verse.” Author A.R. Arthur said of the collection: "The past reverberates throughout the present and future within this collection which adds not only gravitas but richer meaning beyond the surface of striking, seldom read imagery." Pichette's work has been nominated for a number of awards, including the Pushcart and the Rhysling. You can find links to some of Pichette's poems and short stories on the author's website.
