“Mind Games” by Nora Roberts
Review by Amy Atzert, collection development librarian
Thea Fox has the gift of sight. She can see into people's minds, feel what they are feeling, and experience what they are experiencing. Many of the Fox women down through the generations had it. Thea and her grandmother Lucy never spoke of it until one fateful night when Thea was visiting her grandmother. They both woke up from a horrifying dream, one where her mother and father were murdered in their sleep. At that moment both of them knew it was not a dream, but their reality. After that life changing tragedy, her grandmother helped Thea understand and respect their shared gift.
To Thea’s horror, she discovered her parents' killer also had the gift of sight. He could feel Thea watching him the night he broke into her family home. What he didn’t expect was Thea would help the police capture him and put him away in prison for the rest of his life. What Thea didn’t expect was how he could use that same sight to get into her head to harm her. Thea must find a way to use her gift to free herself from him forever. If she doesn’t, her life will forever be changed and not for the good.
I often enjoy books by Roberts, and this is no exception. A contemporary novel with a touch of the supernatural. The Fox family has been through tragedy and trauma, but uses their faith and love in each other to battle back. Convincing characters and a feisty but sweet romance adds flavor to the pages. Fans of Roberts won’t be disappointed.
