On June 3 at 4 p.m., the Somerset County Library System of New Jersey’s (SCLSNJ) Bridgewater Library branch, which is located at 1 Vogt Drive in Bridgewater, will reveal the new children's garden and pavilion, The Greany Learning Garden.
“The Greany Learning Garden enables the Library to pair hands-on experiences with programming and Library materials to cultivate learning in natural science, nutrition, and conservation in children and teens,” said Meredith Hoyer, youth services department supervisor. “The Friends of The Bridgewater Library are generously sponsoring our Greany Learning Garden programs, and we also plan to take advantage of the space to bring many of our other youth programs outside.”
The Greany Learning Garden is situated adjacent to the Bridgewater branch’s youth services division where large windows provide full visibility into the space. The space features a 600-square-foot covered pavilion for hosting classes and programming, which will include a butterfly garden and four raised vegetable beds.
"SCLSNJ is thrilled to welcome The Greany Learning Garden as a new programmatic space at the Bridgewater branch,” said Christopher Korenowsky, director of public services. “This project has been under development for quite some time. With staff persistence, and the immensely generous bequest from Ms. Frances Greany, we will see the project come to full fruition this June. SCLSNJ is always delighted to explore new ways to shape our spaces to meet community needs."
This garden is dedicated to the memory of Frances J. Greany, whose generosity and dedication to education will be remembered by the children who gather here and grow together.
For more information or to RSVP to the event, email Christopher Korenowsky at: ckorenowsky@sclibnj.org or call (908) 458-4931. Light refreshments will be served.
