Mary Jacobs Neighborhood Library Grand Opening to be Hosted Saturday, May 13, 2023

About Blog Post Apr 21, 2023 by SCLSNJ
The Mary Jacobs Foundation, in partnership with the Somerset County Library System of New Jersey (SCLSNJ), is pleased to announce the grand opening of the Mary Jacobs Neighborhood Library, located in Rocky Hill. Working cooperatively, the Foundation and Library System will be hosting an open house and ribbon-cutting event on Saturday, May 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  “Every town needs a center,” said Cary Dawson, president of the Mary Jacobs Foundation Board of Trustees. “The Mary Jacobs Library has been the center of Rocky Hill for close to 50 years. Creating a new space for the community in the Foundation’s building has been a long road, but our trustees have kept their heads down and focused on the work. I am so grateful to them all for what they have given as volunteers. We are proud of the results and now we shift our focus to getting the word out that this wonderful resource is open for business - right in the center of town.” “The Mary Jacobs Foundation and the County Library have had a long, successful, and unique partnership in bringing first-rate library service to the southern tier of the county,” said Brian Auger, library director. “This association has led to unparalleled demand for those services in the area. We are excited by the possibilities presented by this neighborhood-oriented library that complements the offerings of the nearby Montgomery branch.” Continued Auger, “We look forward to continuing our partnership with the Foundation and thank them for their ongoing commitments: serving the community and honoring the memory of Mary Jacobs.” Beginning May 13, our Mary Jacobs location will be open:
  • Mondays from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
  • Tuesdays from 2-6 p.m.
  • Wednesdays from 2-6 p.m.
  • Thursdays from 2-6 p.m.
  • Saturdays from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
"The staff and I are excited to be a part of the opening of the Mary Jacobs Neighborhood Library and look forward to seeing familiar faces once again at 64 Washington Street,” said Elizabete Pata, branch manager. “The updated layout will provide us as staff the opportunity to tailor library services to the needs of the local Rocky Hill community." Library staff will be hosting timed tours of the newly renovated space beginning at 10:30 a.m. Tours will begin every half hour; 10 people per tour. Registration is requested: Additionally, the Mary Jacobs Foundation has planned some parking lot events to pass the time while you await your tour. Children - and those young at heart - can get complimentary face paint or snack on a delicious treat from the visiting ice cream truck. The Mary Jacobs Neighborhood Library has already planned several special events to help celebrate the summer months: The Mary Jacobs Neighborhood Library is located at 64 Washington Street in Rocky Hill.
