Look on the Bright Side” by Kristan Higgins Review by Amy Atzert, collection development librarian Lark Smith has always known she wanted to work in the medical field of oncology. The truth is she mainly knew that because of the devastating loss of her fiancé to cancer. She was always the kind of girl who had her whole life planned out. That plan is not going too well. To add to her misery she just got the devastating news that she has been kicked out of her oncology rotation for being too sensitive. True, she cries at the drop of a hat but shouldn’t that speak to her innate nature to care deeply for her patients? Evidently not.    When the handsome, yet notorious Dr. Lorenzo Santini (aka Dr. Satan) approaches her about playing the role of his fake girlfriend for his sister’s wedding she is stunned. The full of himself but fantastic surgeon wants her help, huh? His proposal, although preposterous, does give Lark  pause. With one good recommendation from him (which he agrees to give her if she accepts his proposal) could set her professional life back on course. This whole thing will simply be an insignificant harmless farce that will be over within a matter of weeks. No big deal.  What Lark doesn’t expect is just how much she will like Lorenzo’s close knit family and how much they will like her. Maybe this fake girlfriend agreement isn’t going to be as easy as she thought. The question is will she still think she made the right decision when it is all said and done.   A fun and funny heartfelt novel dealing with love, loss and the joy of family. Secondary plots like her parents' marital issues and Lark’s budding feelings for Lorenzo’s brother add depth to the story. Higgins expertly blends both humor and deep emotion in this enjoyable read.
