Library System Offers Variety of Programs for Business Pros
Six business programs being offered at SCLSNJ libraries through Q1 and Q2
(Somerset County, NJ: January 23, 2017) Somerset County Library System of New Jersey has announced six programs for local business professionals. “We are delighted to continue to support the small business economy in 2017 with free networking and educational opportunities for the small business owner and entrepreneur,” said Cathy DeBerry, adult services librarian at SCLSNJ’s Warren Township Library branch and Business Services Committee moderator. “The SCLSNJ business librarians are particularly excited to be offering for the first time a program for the Spanish speaking business community on finance at our North Plainfield branch.” Speed Networking February 8, 8:30-10:30 a.m. SCLSNJ’s Bridgewater Library branch, located at 1 Vogt Dr. in Bridgewater Meet up to 24 other professionals over a two hour period while perfecting your 30-second "elevator speech," practicing marketing skills, trying out a new sales pitch, and expanding your professional network. There will be a short presentation by Rocco Romeo, a corporate sales trainer, beforehand on in-person and digital networking skills, and refreshments will be served. Business Maker Day March 24, 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. SCLSNJ Warren Township Library branch, located at 42 Mountain Blvd. in Warren This year’s professional mini-conference for small business owners, entrepreneurs, and leaders will focus on social media: why it’s important and how to do it well. Learn to increase the visibility of your business, connect with your customers and community for free. Pooja Krishna of Career Networking for Women will present Social Media Effectively, a fast paced session of tips and tricks to get you started. Diane Thieke of Simply Talk Media will cover how to create high quality content on a variety of social media platforms. SCLSNJ staff will discuss how the library can be your business partner. There will be ample time for networking and you can set-up one on one appointments for specific help or tutoring. A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided. Importance Of Saving For The Future For Small Business Owners And Their Employees / Importancia Del Ahorro Para El Futuro Para Dueños De Pequeñas Empresas Y Sus Empleados April 5, 7-8 p.m. SCLSNJ’s Bound Brook Memorial Library branch, located at 402 East High St. in Bound Brook This program will focus on different ways to save, such as homeownership, savings accounts or tax advantaged vehicles like IRAs. There will be an emphasis on the importance of taking advantage of all the benefits that the place of employment may offer, including a 401(k) when applicable. Learn about the benefits of having insurance for your small business and for your employees. Presented by Elliott Smego, Financial Advisor, Prudential Insurance Company of America. Teen Tycoons: An Entrepreneurial Competition May 19, 7-10 p.m. SCLSNJ’s Bridgewater Library branch, located at 1 Vogt Dr. in Bridgewater In celebration of Small Business week, SCLSNJ is hosting a competition for aspiring teen entrepreneurs based on the popular entrepreneurial television show called Shark Tank. The contest is open to all students in grades 7-12 eligible for an SCLSNJ library card. The judges are looking for original business concepts and/or new variations on an existing business concept. The business can be a brand new business or an already existing business. Groups up to a maximum of 3 people are allowed to enter the competition but only one member of the group will present. The participants will not be allowed extensions, PowerPoint slides or props of any kind. The 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place winners will receive prizes. Space is limited. Business Builders Breakfast June 6, 8:30-10 a.m. SCLSNJ’s Bridgewater Library branch, located at 1 Vogt Dr. in Bridgewater SCLSNJ business librarians will share library services and resources available to business professionals in cooperation with the Somerset County Business Partnership (SCBP). Topics to be discussed include online business resources such as Reference USA and the Small Business Resource Center, the digital Wall Street Journal, Business Kits, and the Business Center at SCLSNJ’s Warren Township Library branch.
