SCLSNJ's Hillsborough Branch Unveils Newly Renovated Spaces, Invites Community to Open House Celebration
The Somerset County Library System of New Jersey (SCLSNJ) is excited to announce the completion of extensive renovations at its Hillsborough branch, featuring an updated study space and an engaging, interactive children’s area. The revitalized spaces are designed to better serve the growing and diverse needs of the Hillsborough community.
The renovation project, primarily funded by the generous support of the Friends of the Hillsborough Library, focused on expanding and enhancing the youth services area, which houses one of the library system’s highest circulating children’s collections. The project also included the creation of new quiet study spaces, areas for independent and collaborative work, a public conference room, a craft studio, and a low sensory space.
“The recent SCLSNJ Hillsborough branch renovation was thoughtfully designed to more effectively support the growing youth population within the Hillsborough community, address the challenges of outgrowing the youth services area’s collection space, and accommodate the diverse and evolving needs of a vibrant and large population,” said Catherine DeBerry, Hillsborough Library Branch Manager. “In line with SCLSNJ's mission and its strategic priorities of fostering social and community engagement, these enhancements were made with a deep commitment to honoring the rich agricultural heritage of Hillsborough.”
The renovation was a significant undertaking, requiring the dedicated efforts of the library staff, Friends of the Hillsborough Library and the Hillsborough Department of Public Works. During the two-week renovation period, library staff members collectively moved approximately 40 tons of books and each staff person walked an average of approximately 20,000 steps per day.
To celebrate the completion of these exciting renovations, the SCLSNJ Hillsborough branch invites the public to an open house on Thursday, April 10, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The event will feature a variety of family-friendly activities, including touch a tractor, face painting, temporary tattoos, and photo booth.
“The open house will be a wonderful opportunity for the community to explore the newly renovated spaces and enjoy a fun-filled evening,” said Brian Auger, SCLSNJ Library Director. “SCLSNJ’s Hillsborough branch is committed to providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for all members of the community. The renovations reflect this commitment, ensuring that the library remains a vital resource for education, enrichment, and community connection.”
