For Kids and Their Grown-Ups: “Lucky Dogs” by Joowon Oh Review by Laura Frantz, collection development librarian A young girl named Ruth and her mom are getting ready to move in a few months to a home that does not allow pets. While at a park one day, they visit a pet adoption fair taking place and decide to foster before they move. As Ruth takes care of Ginger, Daisy, and then Cody, she sees parallels between her upcoming move and worries about making new friends to how her foster dogs must adapt to new surroundings and search for forever homes. Author-illustrator Joowon Oh wonderfully spotlights how fostering works and how important it is. Ruth has such a big heart, and the text and illustrations perfectly capture that. This picture book will tug at readers’ heart strings.
