For Kids and Their Grown-Ups: “Do I Have to Go to the Party?” by Jonathan Fenske Review by Laura Frantz, collection development librarian Poppy the puffer fish has been invited to a birthday party. She is planning to go, but the thought of it makes her uneasy. Poppy worries if she will wear the right hat, get the right present, or walk around with a big glob of frosting on her face and no one tells her. She goes to the party with all the worries on her mind. And when she finds out there is a problem at the party, it’s Poppy to the rescue. This is the second entry in the Fish Tank Friends series by Jonathan Fenske that explores emotions for little ones. Many kids (and adults) will relate to Poppy’s anxiety and feel comforted by this story. The picture book features Fenske’s signature style with colorful and expressive illustrations of Poppy and her fish tank friends. A welcome addition to social emotional learning collections.
