For Kids and Their Grown-Ups: 2024 Ezra Jack Keats Awards Borrowed by Laura Frantz, collection development librarian The Ezra Jack Keats Award recognizes early career authors and illustrators for excellence in portraying the multicultural nature of the world. The award is presented by the Ezra Jack Keats Foundation in partnership with the de Grummond Children’s Literature Collection at the University of Southern Mississippi, which houses the Keats archive.  The winner of the Writer Award was Anne Wynter for “Nell Plants a Tree,” while Sarah Gonzales was the winner of the Illustrator Award for “The Only Way to Make Bread.” There were two Writer Award Honors: Kim Rogers for “Just Like Grandma” and Helena Ku Rhee for “Sora’s Seashells.” And there were two Illustrator Award Honors: Fran Alvarez for “Dancing Hand” and Beatriz Gutierrez Hernandez for “Benito Juárez Fights for Justice.” Connect with these winners at your Library.
