For Kids and Their Grown-Ups: 2024 Awards and Honors Created by Linda Tripp, collection development librarian The American Library Association recently revealed the winners of its annual Youth Media Awards, including the Pura Belpré Awards honoring Latinx writers and illustrators whose children's and young adult books best portray, affirm and celebrate the Latino cultural experience. Mexikid: A Graphic Memoir,” written and illustrated by Pedro Martín, is the 2024 Pura Belpré Youth Illustration Award winner. Pedro has grown up in the U.S. hearing stories about his legendary abuelito, but during a family road trip to Mexico, he connects with his grandfather and learns more about his own Mexican identity in this moving and hilarious graphic memoir.  Three Belpré Youth Illustration Honor Books were named:  Five Belpré Children’s Author Honor Books were named:  Saints of the Household,” by Ari Tison, is the 2024 Pura Belpré Young Adult Author Award winner.  When brothers Max and Jay help a classmate in trouble, they struggle with the consequences of their violent actions and worry they may be more like their abusive father than they thought, so the brothers turn to their Bribri roots to find their way forward. Two Belpré Young Adult Author Honor Book were named:
