Explore SCLSNJ's newest digital collection - a collection of 50 vintage postcards from the collections held at our Peapack & Gladstone branch. The postcards depict places in Peapack and Gladstone including Blairsden Mansion, Ravine Lake, the Ravine Lake Dam, the Matheny School, and more.
"Though some images from the Blairsden Mansion postcards are already on the internet, digitizing them as a collection for SCLSNJ allows our customers to explore the full history of the building and its importance to Somerset County. The mansion was built at the turn of the twentieth century as the home of investment banker C.L. Blair; in the 1950s it was sold to the Sisters of St. John the Baptist and became St. Joseph's Villa, operating as a religious retreat; it was again sold in 2012. Working on this digitization project as well as others at SCLSNJ has enabled me to learn so much about Somerset County's towns, communities, and people," said Katrina Zwaaf, SCLSNJ cataloging and metadata librarian.
