Somerset County, NJ: March 15, 2018) The Somerset County Library System of New Jersey (SCLSNJ) strives to provide Somerset County residents with opportunities for lifelong learning and enrichment. Through continued partnerships with arts organizations and grant funding agencies, like the New Jersey Council for the Humanities (NJCH), the System is able to offer a variety of educational and informative programs.
“Libraries are presenters of the breadth of knowledge,” said W. Keith McCoy, SCLSNJ’s director of public services. “It's important that we offer programs that look at the culture of the world we live in, especially the local part we pass through each day. We're grateful that the state of New Jersey supports the humanities and public knowledge in this way.”
According to NJCH, the Council subsidizes 200 high-quality public humanities programs for organizations throughout the state annually, providing opportunities for New Jersey communities to explore shared history, values, culture, and beliefs, and to engage in key questions with the support of a scholarly perspective.
Your Library System will offer eight programs from the NJCH Public Scholars program exploring music to history and beyond.

Write Your Memoir Five Minutes at a Time (adults)
May 15, 7-8 p.m.
SCLSNJ’s Warren Twp. Library branch, located at 42 Mountain Boulevard in Warren Twp.
Everyone has a story to tell, a story that matters. Learn how to develop a memoir writing practice in this workshop presented by Edvige Giunta, Professor of English at New Jersey City University. Registration is required: sclsnj.libnet.info/event/557505.
Beyond Bathrooms and Binaries (teens, adults)
June 5, 7-8 p.m.
SCLSNJ’s Hillsborough Library branch, located at 379 South Branch Road in Hillsborough

The Fiddle in America: A History and Demonstration (adults)

SCLSNJ’s Mary Jacobs Memorial Library Branch, located at 64 Washington Street in Rocky Hill.

Springsteen and his Layered Lyrics (adults)
July 10, 7-8 p.m.
SCLSNJ’s Bridgewater Library branch, located at 1 Vogt Drive in Bridgewater
Through experimental reinterpretation and the creation of new traditions, The Boss has worked within known folk traditions, but at the same time, created new sounds and messages. In this program, patrons can learn about some of the works that have influenced one of Jersey’s most celebrated musical artists. Presented by Pr. Prudence Jones, from Montclair University. UrbEx 101: Investigating Abandoned New Jersey (adults)
