Did you know that many critical events and realities of warfare occurred in Somerset County during the American Revolution? Explore the forgotten towns and crossroads of the American Revolution with author Bob Mayers and the Somerset County Library System of New Jersey (SCLSNJ) on July 1, from 7-8 p.m., at the Bridgewater branch, located at 1 Vogt Drive in Bridgewater.
Mayers penned the book, "Revolutionary New Jersey-Forgotten Towns and Crossroads of the American Revolution" in 2018. During his research he explored the actual sites where local battles, encampments, and other events took place in the 1700s.
“As I was looking for forgotten sights of the Revolutionary War in the northeast I realized I didn’t need to leave New Jersey to discover truly fascinating and important locations,” said Mayers. “I uncovered new facts that were lost in history about the Battles of Short Hills, Bound Brook and Millstone, the Camp at Middlebrook, the route of march of Washington’s army to Yorktown, and many other places that were decisive to victory in the War for Independence.”
During the presentation, Mayers will transport attendees through a journey of events that occurred in neighborhoods including Green Brook, Watchung Ridge, and Martinsville.
