According to a survey by the New Jersey Health Care Quality Institute (NJHCQI), about 70 percent of New Jersey residents have not documented their end-of-life wishes. In order to help improve these statistics, the Somerset County Library System of New Jersey (SCLSNJ) has partnered with NJHCQI to host a program series that focuses on advanced care planning and end-of-life care wishes.
As part of the Mayors Wellness Campaign, the series, Conversation of Your Life (COYL), will provide pertinent information that will aide attendees in communicating their needs and wants to loved ones as they age.
"Having conversations about end-of-life planning involves topics that can be difficult to engage in,” said Darryl Voorhees, SCLSNJ’s manager of adult services, programming and collaborations. “SCLSNJ is committed to assisting our patrons in navigating these subjects by connecting them with experts that have the answers related to advance care planning, handling conversations regarding end of life wishes, funeral planning, and more."
