SCLSNJ’s ten branches to be closed December 2, 3, and 4 for a necessary upgrade; eCollections available virtually during closure

A big change is coming to the Somerset County Library System of New Jersey (SCLSNJ) - a change that has been almost twenty years in the making. SCLSNJ will be upgrading their checkout and catalog system to The Library Corporations CarlX product, live for patron access beginning December 5. “We think patrons are really going to love the new catalog system,” said SCLSNJ Director of Operations Lynn Hoffman. “People who are accustomed to shopping for products online will find it has a very familiar feel. And our Library power users will find a host of new features that will make them even better at searching the catalog.” All SCLSNJ branches will be closed December 2, 3 and 4 for installation of the System’s new checkout and catalog system. SCLSNJ’s new checkout and catalog system will offer easier searching yielding more relevant results, a Librarian-curated children’s catalog, innovative account management features, effortless integration with eBooks and eAudio, and an intuitive layout and user experience. Starting at 5 p.m. on December 1 through 9 a.m. on December 5, the SCLSNJ catalog will be completely unavailable.
  • You won’t be able to view your library account online.
  • You won’t be able to search the catalog for materials.
  • You won’t be able to use your library card to log into online research resources and databases.
However, SCLSNJ’s eBook and eAudiobook collection will be available throughout the three day closure. Visit somerset.overdrive.com to discover and check out over 21,000 items. "We're excited about how easy it will be to find our materials using our new checkout and catalog system from The Library Corporation. SCLSNJ has a fantastic collection, and this upgrade to our system will help us showcase all of our books, DVDs, CDs, eMaterials, and more. The search feature for finding the next book in a series is particularly useful," said East Area and Warren Twp. branch manager Lauren Ryan. During the closure, return items as usual to your local branch. However, since no materials will be due during the closure, patrons can wait until December 5 to return all items without any fear of accruing late fines or other fees. Any holds waiting on shelves beginning December 1 will remain on the shelf through December 7. If you want to save your Wish Lists or Borrowing History, make sure you do so before 5 p.m. on December 1. This information will not be saved or transferred into the new system. Visit any SCLSNJ branch for assistance, or download how-to instructions here: https://sclsnj.org/wp-content/uploads/Saving-your-Borrower-History-and-Wish-Lists.pdf. Visit SCLSNJ.org on December 5 to view our new catalog and to log into your library account using your existing library card number and PIN. Most PINs have been set using the last four digits of your account phone number.
