In an effort to continue to connect with the community virtually, the Somerset County Library System of New Jersey (SCLSNJ) is launching a new virtual program series, Selected Readings: SCLSNJ Unites the Community Through Verse. During this weekly virtual program, Library staff will read selections of their favorite novel or short story live on the Library System’s YouTube Channel.
On April 28 from 11-11:45 a.m., Edward Hoag, manager of branch services, adult learning and community engagement, will be the featured speaker on the series’ debut. Hoag will share the short stories "The Man in the Well" by Ira Sher, originally published in the “Chicago Tribune” in 1995, and “The Ransom of the Red Chief,” a selection in O. Henry’s collection of short stories, “Whirligigs.”
“As a child I would sit and listen to my mother read to us at night, as I grew older I would seek out story-telling programs on the radio and as an adult my wife and I still read stories to each other,” said Hoag. “I'm looking forward to sharing my lifelong enjoyment of listening to the spoken word on the premier of Selected Readings: SCLSNJ Unites the Community Through Verse. Through this live series, SCLSNJ is reaching out to connect with our community, and through these stories we will explore and discover a new way of sharing time together.”
If you enjoy Hoag’s selections, be sure to explore short story compilations virtually with these SCLSNJ e-books:
- “The Adventure of the Red Circle” by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
