Meet bestselling children’s author Beth Ferry with the Somerset County Library System of New Jersey (SCLSNJ) virtually on July 14, from 6:30-7 p.m. Families will have the opportunity to connect with Ferry as she shares some of her stories and how she is inspired to write, while hosting a Q&A session.
“This year's summer reading theme invites you to imagine your story,” said Karen Telesco, system program coordinator, youth services. “What better way to imagine your story than to hear an author read her stories and answer any questions an aspiring writer may have?"
Ferry is the author of over 20 books for young readers including the New York Times bestselling "Stick and Stone,” which tells the heartwarming story of the unlikely friendship between a stick and a stone.
“I wanted to write a simple story about friendship, but wasn’t sure how to make it unique,” said Ferry. “Then I heard a song on the radio with a line that said, ‘Can you imagine your best friend sticking up for you even when I know you’re wrong?’ I loved that line! And I loved that the word ‘stick’ was a homonym. Having a stick, stick up for a stone seemed like the perfect idea for a story.”
Ferry began writing for children in 2009, and had her first book published in 2015. She is the author of “Land Shark,” “Fox and Rabbit,” and more. She is a literacy advocate and encourages aspiring writers to read.
“Reading wide and well exposes readers to the wonder of words,” said Ferry.
