Ukrainian holiday traditional decorations and tree ornaments revolved heavily around Ukrainian folklore, folklife and superstitions. Many homes and trees were traditionally decorated with homemade ornaments, using paper, eggshells, leaves, dried fruits, and/or fabric. Traditions of making ornaments and decorations were passed down from one generation to the next, which helped maintain some of these traditions. The nightingale is the national bird of Ukraine. It is a small passerine bird best known for its powerful and beautiful song. The nightingale is commonly invoked in Ukrainian folk songs and folklore in the image of a creator of sweet sounds, a builder of homes, and a harbinger of spring.
