About Blog Post Sep 1, 2022 by SCLSNJ
The Somerset County Library System of New Jersey’s (SCLSNJ) Somerville branch is one of over 160 public libraries nationwide awarded funding by the Public Library Association (PLA) to conduct digital literacy workshops using Digitallearn.org resources. The PLA Digital Literacy Workshop Incentive, supported by AT&T, provides support to libraries of all sizes to conduct digital literacy training in their communities and help close the digital divide.  “We are very excited to be offering these Digital Learn workshops to our community members,” said Rachel Bohach, adult services library assistant. “The digital divide is real and is encountered daily in our branches, with many people having been left behind as technology outpaced their understanding. Through these workshops, our customers will be able to gain the skills that are crucial to navigate our world today.”  The branch will present eight English-language and four Spanish-language workshops beginning in October 2022 and spanning through February 2023. These hour and a half long workshops will use digitallearn.org resources and small class size instruction to build beginner’s knowledge in four core areas of digital understanding: internet, email, cybersecurity, and video conferencing. English-language grant programs offered in person at the Somerville branch, located at 35 West End Avenue in Somerville:  Spanish-language grant programs offered in person at the Somerville branch, located at 35 West End Avenue in Somerville:  Participants will receive a binder of workshop materials, a certificate of completion, and free earbuds for reviewing and independently exploring other digitallearn.org tutorials.
