SCLSNJ's Manville Branch Launches Memory Cafe Series to Support Adults with Memory Loss
The Somerset County Library System of New Jersey's (SCLSNJ) Manville branch will be launching a new innovative program series this fall titled Memory Cafe. Memory Cafe provides a safe and welcoming space for adults with memory loss, especially early onset dementia, and their caregivers to connect with others in similar situations. "I am excited about the opportunity to contribute to a program that supports individuals with memory loss and their caregivers through activities like crafting, games, and exercise," said Jungwon DeVone, adult services supervisor. "Memory Cafe is vital as our community's elderly population grows and more people are diagnosed with dementia. It provides a supportive environment where individuals with memory loss and their caregivers can connect with others, enhancing their well-being and quality of life." "New Jersey American Water has generously agreed to pay for the performers' portion of our series," said Nan Peterson, branch manager. "The Memory Cafe comprises three parts: socialization; a meaningful, creative activity; and then something performance / action based such as live music, yoga, or meditation. American Water will cover the cost of this third vital component." The branch's first Memory Cafe event will occur on Friday, September 6, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. To learn more or register: https://sclsnj.libnet.info/event/11128203. The Memory Cafe program series will continue throughout the year, occurring on the first Friday of every month. The Manville branch is located at 100 South 10th Avenue in Manville.
