SCLSNJ Museum Pass Program


Check your destination before you visit. While we do our best to stay on top of closings and other accessibility changes, they can happen without notice.

SCLSNJ’s Museum Pass program allows you to check out passes for free admission and special discounts at select locations in the metropolitan area. You can view more information below and see where we have passes available.

To make a reservation, choose a pass, check availability, and then click on the branch where you’d like to pick it up.

  • Choose the date you want to pick up the pass when you make your reservation.
  • You have three days to use the pass.
  • You can pick up the pass any time on the pickup date for your reservation and return any time on the due date.
    • For example, if the pickup date is Tuesday, you may check out the pass any time on Tuesday or Wednesday and return the pass by 8 p.m. on Thursday. If the pickup date is Friday the pass may be returned on Monday before 8 p.m.

SCLSNJ’s pass admits two (2) adults and up to five (5) children. In addition, passholders receive a 10% discount in the Academy Shop. If passholders wish to see ticketed special exhibits, an additional fee may apply.

As a museum pass holder, you are welcome to visit the museum any time during public hours without reserving a timed ticket. Simply present the active museum pass at the front desk for entry.Your visit includes full access to the museum. This includes Dinosaur Hall, the dioramas, Outside In, and the current special exhibition(s). The Academy Café is currently closed.

SCLSNJ’s pass admits up to four (4) adults and eight (8) children (ages 4 – 17) per visit. Passholders can enjoy a 10% discount in the museum’s gift shop, access to special events, exclusive invitations to gallery openings, and invitations to educational workshops and public programs. In addition, pass holders are eligible to receive discounted parking as part of their visit, and free access to select museums through participating NARM institutions.

SCLSNJ’s pass admits six (6) people for the daytime historic tour. Eastern State programming is best enjoyed by children ages seven and older. Admission is complimentary for children under seven years of age. Admission with the pass includes “The Voices of Eastern State” Audio Tour, the award winning exhibits on mass incarceration, history exhibits and a critically acclaimed series of artist installations. SCLSNJ’s pass is not valid for Night Tours, Halloween events or any special programs.

SCLSNJ’s pass admits 2 Adults and 2 Children under 18 to the Intrepid Museum, the Growler submarine, and the Space Shuttle Pavilion. Passholders may also use the express members-only line to receive their tickets in the museum box office. Present your Library card as well as the museum pass for admission.

Additionally, passholders may obtain a 10% discount in The Met Store and all public restaurants. The courtesy card also provides access to members-only spaces such as the Patrons Lounge and Balcony Lounge.

SCLSNJ’s pass admits up to 4 adults. Children under 6 are free, and strollers are not allowed in the museum.

You can reserve tickets for timed entry in advance at https://www.morven.org/partners. Login is not necessary. Simply choose their date, number of tickets (up to 4), and select “Somerset County Library in the partner organization drop-down menu. The passes must be presented along with the tickets upon entry.

Frequently Asked Questions

Passes can be reserved online or by phone using your library card and pin number. If you currently receive notices by email, you will immediately receive a confirmation email and a few days before the pass is to be picked up, you will receive a reminder email. Please call or visit any SCLSNJ branch to sign up for email notification. Confirmations and reminders are delivered by email only, not phone. Not all passes are available at all libraries.

There is no charge to check out a museum pass, only your valid Somerset County Library card is needed (not expired, no fines over $20).

A specific museum pass can be reserved once per month per card. For example, you may only reserve the Guggenheim once per month. Up to five museum passes can be reserved in a calendar month per card.

Reservations can be made up to 30 days in advance.

You can cancel online or by calling any SCLSNJ branch.

If the library is unexpectedly closed due to weather or another emergency and you can not pick up your reservation before it expires, then unfortunately you have lost your reservation.

Pick up your pass at the library branch where the reservation was made. Passes circulate for three (3) days, except when the pickup date is on Friday, then the due date is Monday. Pick up the pass any time on the pickup date and return any time on the due date. For example, if the pickup date is Tuesday, you may check out the pass any time on Tuesday or Wednesday and return the pass by 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. If the pickup date is Friday the pass may be returned on Monday before 8:00 p.m.

Present the library card that was used to reserve the pass at check-out. The library card must be in good standing (not expired, no fines over $20). Some destinations may ask to see your library card.

Yes, you will need to present the library card that you used when reserving the pass to pick it up. The library card must be in good standing (not expired, no fines over $20).

Passes have to be returned to the library branch where it was picked up; return on time to avoid a late fee. Passes may be left in the book drop. If the library branch is open at the time you are dropping off the pass, please make your best effort to return the pass inside the building. Thank you for your consideration of others who are waiting to use the pass.

The late fee for all passes is $20/day. If a pass is lost or damaged the replacement fee is $50.
