Created by Bob Helmbrecht, collection development librarian
Our Women in Horror Month author for today is award-winning author Catriona Ward.
Ward’s debut gothic horror novel, “The Girl From Rawblood,” won the 2016 August Derleth Award for best horror novel from the British Fantasy Society. Iris Villarca is the last of a long line of a family whose members are cursed to be heartbroken, and to die early mysterious deaths. When Iris dares to defy the curse, can she overcome it, or will she be destroyed?
“Little Eve” was Ward’s next novel, and also won the August Derleth Award. It’s finally going to be released in the U.S. in the fall, and you can place your hold on it now.
“The Last House on Needless Street,” was just released last fall. It got a lot of great reviews and showed up on a number of best books lists. When a new neighbor moves in next door to a mysterious, boarded-up home, dark and dangerous secrets may be revealed.
The author’s next book, “Sundial,” was just released. I haven’t had a chance to check this one out yet, but it’s also gotten some great reviews, describing it as a terrifying novel of domestic and psychological horror.
If you want a quick taste of Ward’s writing, you can find short stories in “Cursed” and “The Best Horror of the Year. Volume Thirteen.” Fans of gothic and classic horror should check out Catriona Ward today!
