SCLSNJ's Virtual Book Discussion Salon

In response to recent events and in order to continue to offer exceptional library services, book discussion groups that were traditionally hosted within one of our 10 branches, will now be hosted virtually. Talk books with your favorite Somerset County Library System of New Jersey (SCLSNJ) staffers, safely from home.

Join one, join two … join them all!

“Our book discussion groups are a fun opportunity to connect with fellow readers,” said Carol Polhemus, virtual book discussion salon moderator. “Since everyone’s life experiences bring something different to the table, we get to hear a variety of different viewpoints. I learn something new at every book discussion.”

“Libraries exist to serve their communities and book discussions give that mission agency,” said Carina Gonzalez, virtual book discussion salon moderator. “When you collectively explore how a book influenced your thoughts and feelings, it creates a bridge of trust, respect, and shared perspective, allowing us to connect us with our communities in a personal and meaningful way.”

“If you have been curious about what happens at a book discussion, here is your chance to join one from the comfort of your home,” said Jennifer Konopacki, virtual book discussion salon moderator. “It’s been my experience, after running a book discussion group for over 15 years, that those who participate in book discussions enjoy it because it pushes them to read books out of their comfort zone. So, give it a try!”
