Remembrances from SCLSNJ Staff

It is said that books can have a special impact on your life. For staff at the Somerset County Library System of New Jersey (SCLSNJ), this statement rings resoundingly true.

“More than ever, the ability to read is fundamental to achievement,” said Brian Auger, county library administrator. “Educators know that early successes in developing reading skills and learning to read for pleasure are essential building blocks for academic excellence.”

Continued Auger, “While public libraries are politically and culturally neutral, we are ‘all in’ on promoting the love of reading. Everything we do for children, from the books we purchase to the programs we provide, is intended to build readers. At SCLSNJ, we’ve even developed a toolbox to help parents make readers out of their children.”

Library staffers from across all 11 branches of the System recently shared the first books they remember reading on their own. How many have you read?
