The Accidental Beauty Queen by Teri Wilson
Charlotte and Ginny Gorman are identical twins but they are completely different. Charlotte is the bookworm who embraces her inner geek and loves her job as a school librarian. Ginny is a professional beauty contest contestant who makes a living off of her style blog and Instagram account. Selfishly Charlotte tags along with Ginny to her latest beauty pageant because of the free bed in her hotel room and its proximity to Universal Studios Orlando and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. They do get to spend some quality sister time together ordering room service and watching movies but disaster strikes. Ginny has a severe allergic reaction to something she ate and the swelling is not expected to go down for at least three days. This pageant means a lot to her. It’s the one their mother won and Ginny wants to win it in her memory. Of course this is also the last year she is eligible to win before she ages out. Ginny turns to her sister and begs her to take her place on the stage. So begins Charlotte’s transformation from geeky librarian to beauty queen. What could possibly go wrong?
I totally identified with Charlotte. I had no idea why she had to do half the things her sister made her do to prepare and if she didn’t explain some of the processes and peels I think I would have had to look them up. The idea of walking a hyperactive dog in four inch heels made me a little woozy, nevermind figuring out what to do for the talent competition…
Even if you have never had any desire to be in a beauty contest but you do want a light read that makes you laugh, with a fun romance thrown in for good measure, give this one a go. I completely enjoyed it and it was the perfect pick me up after some dark and dreary reads.
