Starting May 13, library services provided by Somerset County Library System of New Jersey (SCLSNJ) at the Mary Jacobs Foundation’s building will conclude.
“SCLSNJ is thankful for the partnership developed over the past 51 years with the Mary Jacobs Foundation and the residents of Rocky Hill,” said Brian Auger, SCLSNJ Director. “Their support was essential in providing library services to the community. As the contract for library services at the Mary Jacobs Foundation’s building in Rocky Hill concludes, we look forward to continuing to serve Rocky Hill residents through the Montgomery branch, located just over two miles away.”
This transition is the result of collaborative efforts between the Mary Jacobs Foundation and SCLSNJ to best serve the Rocky Hill community with appropriate library services, while balancing the costs associated with a full-service library. SCLSNJ, with potential funding from the Mary Jacobs Foundation, is exploring plans for an automated holds pickup station at the site. This would provide convenient access for residents to pick up SCLSNJ materials and return items.
Rocky Hill residents will continue to have access to all library services in Somerset County, with the Montgomery Library located 2.2 miles away.
“Although we are disappointed that library services will no longer be offered at the Mary Jacobs building, we are excited that the community will be able to come together for programming in the coming months,” said Cary Dawson, Mary Jacobs Foundation Board President.
To commemorate this transition and offer the community informative and engaging programs at the Mary Jacobs building, the following events will be held:
- Indoor Video Game Party (Families): Saturday, March 1, 2-3:30 p.m. An afternoon of video games with GameTruck!
- Unique Creatures (Families): Saturday, April 19, 10:30-11:15 a.m. Get up close with amazing animals and learn about their habitats and abilities. This program is geared toward children in grades K-5, but all families are welcome.
- Library Information Session (All Ages): Monday, May 5, 2-3 p.m. and Tuesday, May 13, 11 a.m.- noon. Rocky Hill community members are invited to learn about all the services and resources available to them as SCLSNJ cardholders.
