October Focus on Horror: Sam Rebelein
Created by Bob Helmbrecht, collection development librarian
Our Focus on Horror author today is author Sam Rebelein.
Rebelein’s debut novel, “Edenville,” was released in 2023.An author publishes his debut novel but gets poor sales and reviews. When Edenville College invites him to be a writer-in-residence, he feels his luck may have finally turned. Unfortunately, it somehow turns even worse. A work of literary horror, “Edenville” moves easily from campus horror, to rural horror, to body horror and back again, with some humor mixed liberally in. Author Eric LaRocca said of the book: “Sam Rebelein possesses the skill set of a venerated master and ‘Edenville’ is a truly imaginative debut.”
Rebelein’s follow-up book will be published in February. “The Poorly Made and Other Things: A Story Collection” will return to the setting of Edenville’s Renfield County. When you cut down trees in a cursed forest, you really, really shouldn’t make furniture and decor from them. Place your hold on this one now!
You can find links to some stories and essays on the author’s website. One of Rebelein’s stories can also be found in the anthology “Human Monsters.” Give them a read, then check out a book by Sam Rebelein today!
