October Focus on Horror: S.A. Barnes
Created by Bob Helmbrecht, collection development librarian
Our Focus on Horror Month author for today is S.A. Barnes.
Barnes’s debut horror novel, “Dead Silence,” was published in 2022. A cross-genre science-fiction/horror/mystery, the book appeared on a number of “Best Books” lists that year, including those from CrimeReads, Gizmodo, and the New York Public Library. A space repair crew tracks an old distress signal to a spaceliner that had disappeared years before. They must solve the mystery of what happened to it before suffering the same dark fate.
Barnes followed this up with 2024’s “Ghost Station,” another work of space horror. An exploratory crew arrives at an ancient planet, formerly home to an alien race. What will happen when one of the crew is found murdered? Author Darcy Coates said of the novel: “‘Ghost Station‘ is everything I could want in a horror story and more. Barnes became one of my favorite authors with ‘Dead Silence‘ and this is a stunning follow-up. Highly recommended.”
