SCLSNJ’s North Plainfield Memorial Library Branch Main Level to Close for Necessary Renovations

SCLSNJ’s North Plainfield Memorial Library Branch Main Level to Close for Necessary Renovations February 12 through March 3.

The main level of SCLSNJ’s North Plainfield Memorial Library will be closed to patrons February 12 through March 3 for necessary renovations. The lower level of the branch, also known as the children’s area, will remain open to the public.

“This is the first phase in an effort to create a more welcome and modern library space for our patrons,” said Branch Manager Christal Blue.

“The replacement of the lighting fixtures and ceiling tiles began back in November, and has been spread out over the last few months to minimize the impact to our patrons. We are amazed at the difference this change has already made on the space. Patrons have commented that the lighting looks brighter, more natural, and gives the appearance of a more open space. The new energy efficient lighting is a welcome change, and the pendant lighting that has been installed over our collections will make it easier to see the hidden treasures shelved within our stacks.”

During this closure period public computer and copier access will not be available.  Adult, teen, and tween materials will need to be reserved online at catalog.sclsnj.org for pick-up at the lower branch level.

“We are grateful for the support of Borough of North Plainfield leadership as we work together to create a welcoming space for residents. They recognize the library as a central space within the community to learn, explore, and connect. It has been a pleasure to work with them to begin making improvements to the library building that will allow us to better highlight our collections and address the need for more seating and electrical outlets for the public,” continued Blue.

All library programs will continue as scheduled in the library’s lower level program room.  Accessible access is located at the rear of the building.

“We’re excited to see the continuation of this project,” said East Area Manager Lauren Ryan. “The work that has already been completed has really improved the functionality and appearance of these areas within the Library.”
